Sanft bergauf der Aa entlang in Richtung Fürenalp oder lieber umgekehrt gemächlich abfallend hinunter ins Surenental? Egal wie du dich entscheidest, die Wanderung führt durch ein wah- res Juwel über bunte Alpwie- sen, vorbei am imposanten Stäu- berwasserfall – die anmuten- den Spannörter stets zum Grei- fen nah. Nicht umsonst trägt das Tal den Namen «Little Pata- gonia». Während dem Alpsom- mer laden verschiedene Beizli oder Alpkäsereien zu einer Rast ein.

Wie auf einem Balkon hoch über dem Engelbergertal wanderst du ab der Fürenalp auf einem ab- wechslungsreichen Pfad, der an verschiedenen Kraftorten und ehemaligen Schiefersteinbrü- chen vorbeiführt, in Richtung Dorf. Bis lange in den Abend hin- ein verwöhnt die Sonne den Berghang, an den sich der stetig leicht abfallende Weg schmiegt. Ab der Alp Zieblen gibt es zwei Wegoptionen. Entweder auf einem recht steilen Karrenweg in etlichen Serpentinen ins Tal hinunter oder weiter auf einem schmalen Trail ans «Ende der Welt».

This varied path is like an exten- ded viewing terrace high above the Engelberg Valley. It leads past former slate quarries and places where you can tank up on spiritual energy. The slope that the path descends gently along gets sunshine until late in the evening. At Alp Zieblen you are faced with a choice – to jour- ney down into the valley along a rather steep cart path that takes multiple twists and turns, or to stay on the narrow path and head for the «End of the World».

Will you choose to walk gently uphill towards Fürenalp along the River Aa, or in the opposite direction slightly downhill into the Surenen Valley? However you decide, this hike is a wonder- ful experience. It takes you across blooming Alpine meadows and past an impressive waterfall, with the graceful Spannort peaks seeming close enough to touch. This valley bears the nickname Little Patagonia, and it’s easy to see why. During the summer, various rustic Alpine pubs and Alpine cheese dairy tempt hikers with a range of tasty delicacies.
