Schon der Heilige Benedikt hat die Gastfreundschaft in seinen berühmten Regeln festgehalten.

St. Benedict himself dedicated an entire chap- ter of his famous Rule to hospitality, so it’s no surprise that the first guesthouse in Engelberg opened on the initiative of a group of Benedictine monks. Today, the Abbey has 17 guest rooms. The monks also run traditional hotel operations at St. Josefshaus, which the Abbey acquired in november 2020. Guests at the Abbey eat around a long table in the gorgeous dining room, with portraits of former abbots peering discreetly over their shoulders. Here, guests can enjoy a conviv- ial evening over a festive meal from the Abbey’s kitchen, accompanied by a fruity white wine from the Abbey’s own vineyard.

Während von den Wänden die Portraits ehema- liger Äbte den Gästen diskret über die Schultern blicken, lässt sich der fruchtige, vom eigenen Rebberg am Bielersee stammende Weisswein so richtig geniessen, ehe dann vom Team der Gastro- abteilung ein festliches Mahl aus der Klosterküche aufgetischt wird. Egal, wer man ist, im Benedik- tinerkloster Engelberg ist man als Gast gerne gesehen und ein warmherziges Willkommen ist einem gewiss!
