Water shapes the landscape in many parts of the Engelberg Valley. From ice-cold sources high up on the glaciers to bab- bling streams and rivers down in the valley, it accompanies you on many different walks – for example rushing alongside you in the River Aa. At the Euge- niesee reservoir, water is used to generate electricity, but this is also a popular site with anglers (day tickets and rental equip- ment available).

At the entrance to Engelberg, water plunges wildly down the valley through the Aa gorge. You can observe how the waters have carved their way through the rock here over the course of millennia on an exciting hike through the gorge that takes you over numerous suspension bridges and past wonderful barbecue and picnic spots.
