900 JAHRE BENEDIKTINERKLOSTER ENGELBERG Seit der Gründung im Jahre 1120 prägt das Benediktinerkloster Engelberg die Geschichte des Hochtals. Als weltoffene monastische Institution hat das Kloster zur Entwicklung Engelbergs zum interna- tional bekannten Ferien- und Tourismus- ort einen wesentlichen Beitrag geleistet. Bis heute prägt das Kloster das Hochtal stark. So konnten touristische Infra- strukturen wie Langlaufloipen, die grösste Skisprunganlage der Schweiz oder die bekannte Klostermatte nur mit der Unterstützung des Klosters realisiert werden. Mit seiner Geschichte steht das Benedik- tinerkloster Engelberg für beständige Werte. Für das Kloster ist das 900-Jahr- Jubiläum nicht nur eine Gelegenheit, auf eine lange, bewegte Tradition und Geschichte zurückzublicken, sondern auch den Blick ganz bewusst nach vorne zu richten. 900 YEARS BENEDICTINE MONASTERY ENGELBERG Since its founding in 1120, the Benedic- tine monastery Engelberg has shaped the history of the high valley. As a cos- mopolitan monastic institution, the monastery has made a significant contri- bution to the development of Engelberg as an internationally renowned holiday and tourism destination. To this day, the monastery strongly characterizes the high valley. Thus, tourist infrastructures such as cross-country ski trails, the largest ski jumping facility in Switzerland or the well-known Klostermatte could only be realized with the support of the monastery. For the monastery, the 900th anni- versary is not only an opportunity to look back on a long, turbulent tradition and history, but also deliberately to look ahead. The jubilee «900 Years Engelberg Monastery» lasts from 1 December 2019 to 31 December 2020. All jubilee activities can be found at www.kloster-engelberg.ch.
