After more than 15 years on Klosterstrasse, last November Engelberg’s Tourist Information Centre moved to Dorfstrasse. This is much more than just a change of address – the centre has been given a whole new look and offers more than ever before. The blue ex terior wa lls of the new Tour- ist Information Centre are a striking addition to Dor fstrasse. But the a ltered appearance isn’ t the on ly novelty – the spacious new centre has been designed as a pleasant, in- spiring env ironment, equipped with modern

graphers in the world. His photographs a lso appear in Engelberg’s tourism brochures. This spring, the photographs on the wa ll will be swapped in preparation for the upcoming summer season, bestowing a more summer y atmosphere in the Tourist Information Centre. A lthough face-to-face contac t is still an impor tant par t of tourist information, these days v isitors are increasingly using modern ICT channels such as live chat and on line ser v ices. Tourist Information staf f can answer customers’ questions or give them inspiration for their stay by transferring imag- es f rom their iPads to the large wa ll-mounted screen. “In the past, v isitors had to bend over a sma ll display to see what we wanted to show them; with this large screen we can of fer a much more emotive experience,” says Frédéric. A longside the screen, opposite the entrance, is the main reception desk, where v isitors can purchase ski passes, tickets for events, merchandise, and more. This div ision between sa les and information is a deliber- ate par t of the new concept. There is a lso a cosy seating area equipped with three ad- ditiona l iPads that a llows guests to spend a pleasant, relax ing time f inding out more about Engelberg as a tourist destination. The centre’s interior is enhanced by photographs taken by Oskar Enander, a Swedish-born inhabitant of Engelberg who is one of most accomplished A lpine spor t photo­

The task of rev iv ing Dor fstrasse will take more than simply at trac ting tourists into the centre of the v illage: “We have to keep working on a ll the other par ts of the puzzle.” Many tourist destinations in Switzerland are tr y ing to bring more people into their v illage and town cen- tres. Engelberg is one of the few destinations in Centra l Switzerland whose Tourist Informa- tion Centre a lso opens on the weekend. With 1.5 million day trippers coming to Engelberg each year, it ’s good to know that the Tourist Infor- mation team is on hand to let them know a ll about what ’s on in Engelberg. The new prem- ises on Dor fstrasse make get ting that infor- mation an even more inspiring experience.
