The Trübsee lies between Engelberg and the Joch Pass, 1,800 metres above sea level. Once upon time, smugglers and sumpters came through here as they trod the steep path from the Ger- schnialp and up the Pfaffenwand before contin- uing over the Joch Pass. These days, the route is covered by tourists from near and far on the more leisurely cable car, and the Trübsee offers a range of fun-packed activities for them to enjoy. “Trübsee” is the name of both a high plateau and the lake that is found there. Peter is one of the founding members of the Sbrinz Route f riends’ association, so he a lready knew plenty about the old trading route. And yet, many details had to be re- searched and fac ts compiled. “We explored the histor y to uncover exciting stories,” says Peter. The playground was completed last September. There was no big opening cer- emony since there were immediate plans to add more features. For example, a “sumpters’ camp” has been set up nex t pleasant place to relax and enjoy summer time in the mountains. There is a lso a themed path around the lake with four stations that play- f u lly inform wa lkers about the topic of smug- glers and sumpters. The station “Donations for the Hasli ” refers to the erstwhile relationship between Engelberg and the Hasli va lley and the “Connec ting up Engelberg and the Hasli Va lley” station takes that topic f ur ther. “The Legend of the Strong Monk ” tells the stor y of how the P faf fenwand (“Clergy clif f ”) got its name, and the “Legend of Arniloch ” re- ca lls the days of Engelberg’s “gold rush ”. The journey to the playground is a lot quicker if you take one of the two para llel zip lines f rom the Trübsee A lpine Lodge and “ f ly” down the 400 metres to the lakeshore – perhaps with a f riend a longside you on the other line. If you want more ac tion once you arrive, you shou ld tr y out the Bag Jump. It sounds straightforward but is loads of f un. It involves dropping onto a big cushion of air to the playground on the other side of the Su lzbach stream. With its benches, tables, barbecue grills and sma ll huts, it is the idea l spot for a picnic or simply a

Zudem steht auch eine permanente Slackline zur Verfügung sowie ein Sommercurlingfeld. Alle zwei Wochen gibt es einen Barbecue-Brunch. Neben all den vielfältigen Attraktionen, die der Trübsee zu bieten hat, darf die Natur nicht vergessen gehen. Der Trübsee ist Ausgangs- punkt vieler Wanderungen im Titlisgebiet. Von dort kann man zu Fuss zum Jochpass aufsteigen oder aber gemütlich den Sessellift nehmen. Seit letztem Sommer sorgt ein Flowtrail für Moun- tainbikes am Jochpass für Begeisterung. Zudem ist der Trübsee der erste See der beliebten «4-Se- en-Wanderung», die vom Trübsee zum Engstlen- see und via Tannensee zur Melchsee-Frutt führt. Der Wanderweg vom Stand runter zum Trübsee nennt sich Panoramaweg, und das nicht ohne Grund. Der Weg führt dem Grat entlang und bietet eine herrliche Aussicht über das

The latest at trac tion is a large play- ground by the lake with a “smuggler and sumpter” theme, as a successor to the Knorrli- weg f un trail. “When it became clear that the Knorrliweg was going to close, we had to come up with an a lternative,” says Peter Rein le, head of marketing at Titlisbahnen. “We didn’ t want to make too hasty a decision, so f irst we began collec ting ideas. We wanted something that f it ted in with the Trübsee and with the region as a whole.” In the old days, sumpters – the drivers of pack anima ls – used to pass through the Trübsee on their way f rom Stansstad over the Joch Pass to Domodossola in nor thern Ita ly to sell the famous sbrinz cheese, made here in Centra l Switzerland. Den Titlisbahnen ist es gelungen, jedem etwas bieten zu können. Wer ruhige Natur liebt, lädt der Fussweg um den Trübsee auf einen idyl- lischen Spaziergang ein. Familien mit grossen und kleinen Kindern sind auf dem «Schmuggler und Säumer»-Spielplatz bestens aufgehoben. Wanderer können nach getanem Auf- oder Abstieg auf der Sonnenterrasse des Hotel Trüb- sees den Tag bei einem kühlen Bier ausklingen lassen und auf den See hinunterblicken. Das ist er, der Trübsee, ein Ort für alle und jeden.
